Hello and welcome, thanks you for the visit, my name is Brett Harper I’m a poly-medium visual artist, with a Bachelor of Fine Art from Griffith University. This work aims to reframe cross-stitch, historically coded as a domestic, feminine pastime into a deliberate fine-art medium, using its slowness and precision to explore masculinity, intimacy, release and the sustained gaze. By rendering the ardor filled erotic gaze in meticulous threadwork, I’m creating a deliberate tension between tradition and taboo, softness and strength, exploring what remains, locked in memory.
In contrast to a culture of fast consumption and quick visual gratification, this process insists on duration, lasting, slow making, the building of desire. Each piece is built stitch by stitch as an act of attention and restraint, inviting viewers to move beyond instant release and fast food, toward a more felt, lifetime lingering encounter.
